Symptom
- Unexpected problems occur when using import BW connection to create or update model in SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) from specific query or CDS View
- How to enable RSTT Trace in SAP BW in order to figure out root cause
Environment
- SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC)
- SAP NetWeaver Business Warehouse (BW)
Resolution
- Logon to your SAP NetWeaver BW system and start transaction RSTT.
- Click .
- Ensure the APPLICATION AREA is set to BI REPORTING, BI PLANNING, AND OLAP TECHNOLOGY.
- Navigate back to the start screen.
- Select the item USER ACTIVATION on the left hand side.
- Enter the user name that you would like to trace into the field TRACE USER, which should be same as the user configured in the import data connection to BW in SAC.

The tracing for the selected user has now been activated and all activities for the selected area in the Basic Setting are now being logged.

Go to SAC to try creating a new model or refreshing import job in existing model based on the import data connection to BW.
=> The RSTT Traces are generated in "Trace Collection". -
Select the latest one there and then click Execute Trace.
=> If it enters into Break Point (Debug mode) or gets any red mark in execution of one function model, it should be considered as BW issue, so please reach your BW expert.
=> If you have already submitted one case, you can also provide SAP Support with generated RSTT Trace ID and BW Trace User - Select the item USER ACTIVATION on the left hand side.
- Enter the user name that you entered in step 6.
- Click Deactivate to disable the RSTT trace.
