1798141 - Error Message: Inventory in Logistics Area not Available

Symptom

You are trying to confirm a Logistics Task (for example a Pick Task) and when you enter the relevant Source Logistics Area ID, the system is showing the error message: Inventory in Logistics Area not Available. However, when you check the Stock Overview, it is showing enough On-Hand Quantity in the respective Logistics Area for the requested Product.

Environment

SAP Business ByDesign

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to the Outbound Logistics work center.
  2. Select the Task Control view.
  3. Search for the relevant Pick Task.
  4. Choose the Confirm button.
  5. In the task confirmation screen, enter the Actual Quantity.
  6. Then enter the relevant Source Logistics Area ID and choose Save button. The system displays the error message: Inventory in Logistics Area not Available.
  7. Now go to Common Tasks and select Stock Overview.
  8. Check the stock of the requested Product in the relevant Logistics Area, you can see the system is showing enough On-Hand Quantity.

Cause

The Stock of the requested Product in the relevant Logistics Area has already been allocated to some other Warehouse Request. That is the reason the system is not able to find any stock when you try to confirm the Task. To check the Allocation of the Stock, please use the Projected Material Flow link. Please follow the below steps to do same:

  1. Go to the Outbound Logistics work center.
  2. Select Projected Material Flow link under Common Tasks.
  3. Enter the relevant Site and Product IDs.
  4. Choose the Go button.
  5. Here you can see On-Hand Stock and Allocated Stock.
  6. Available Stock is equal to On-Hand Stock minus Allocated Stock. Since in this case, On-Hand Stock and Allocated Stock are equal, Available Stock is zero.
  7. Further you can also check the Document ID column to see the Warehouse Request ID the stock is allocated to.

Resolution

If you want to use the relevant Product in the current Task, then you need to cancel the Allocation. Please proceed as follows:

  1. Go to the Outbound Logistics work center.
  2. Select the Task Control view.
  3. Select All Warehouse Tasks by Selection from the Show drop down and open the Advance search.
  4. In the Request ID field, enter the Warehouse Request ID, to which the stock is allocated.
  5. Choose Go button.
  6. Select the relevant Task and choose the Confirm button.
  7. Select the line item of the requested Product ID and click the 'Cancel Allocation' button.
  8. If you do not want to confirm this particular Task, please ensure to enter zero quantity as Actual Quantity for all the other Line Items before saving your changes. Otherwise, the system will confirm the quantities for these other Line Items.
  9. Finally, choose the Save button. This will cancel the allocation, and you will be able to confirm the current Task.

Please note: The scenario in this article also applies to Inbound as well as Internal Logisitics Tasks. It is not limited to Outbound Logisitics Task. The Outbound Logistics Pick Task is only exemplary.
