2789751 - "Cannot find model information" message when opening a story and users with no read access to the Private files folder are not able to see any data within Stories in SAP Analytics Cloud

Symptom

Users with no read access to the Private files (folder) are not able to see any models or data within Stories in SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) although they are the shared in the file repository (View rights).
The following error also occurs when opening a story:

SAP Analytics Cloud 2019.07+

Reproducing the Issue

Create a new role and do not give access to the private files read privilege but share out a private folder to your end users.
Logon with user which has above role.
Try to run the story.
Error is displayed.

Cause

The "Model Migration to Files" feature introduced in 2019.07 will migrate models to file folder. As part of the migration, it will create a new team with the same name as the role. It will then add the users who were assigned the role to the new team. And it will then grant the team the appropriate Sharing Settings on models in the Public > Models folder.

In this case, if the custom role does not have Read Option for the Public Files permission, then the default 'models in folders' migration of role permissions to sharing settings will result in end-users being unable to refresh stories against the migrated models.

Resolution

There are several possible approaches for solving this problem, depending upon whether your model security is a simple setup (all users can access all models) or more complex.

Edit your custom role to grant READ permission on Public Files.
Create a new team with a team folder, include all users as members, and then move the Browse > Files > System > Public > Models folder to the team folder. (This will remove the sharing settings assigned on the models by the migration, and replace them with sharing settings for the team.)
Move the migrated models from the Browse > Files > System > Public > Models folder to existing team folders if you already have them. (This will remove the sharing settings assigned on the models by the migration, and replace them with sharing settings for each team.)
Move the migrated models from the Browse > Files > System > Public > Models folder to your private folder and then re-share the folder from there.

To read a user’s private model that has been shared, you will need three things:

Rights to read the model via the sharing rights that are set by the user when they share it (in the Main Menu > Browse > Files repository).
Read rights on the Planning Model or Analytical model application privilege under Main Menu > Security > Roles, depending on your model types in use.
Read rights on the Private Files application privilege under Main Menu > Security > Roles.

If you don’t have one of these three rights, you won’t be able to read (open/use) the model, and stories associated with that model.
