2771584 - Error Message: “Business partner category does does not exist; use 1, 2 or 3” While Modifying Accounts Using Mass Data Maintenance

Symptom

Your requirement is to modify Accounts data in your system. While updating the Accounts using Mass Data Maintenance, system throws the error:

Business partner category does does not exist; use 1, 2 or 3

Environment

 SAP Business ByDesign

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to Mass Data Maintenance work center 
  2. Select Export Customers link
  3. Export the data from the General tab to CSV file
  4. Modify the required fields for all the Accounts
  5. Select Import Customers link and upload the file to the General tab
  6. Execute Data Import Immediately
  7. Error occurs

Cause

The error is due to one of the below reasons:

1) You are updating the customer Account ID
2) You are importing new Accounts into the system

Resolution

1) Updating the customer Account ID is not supported. Account ID is used as a key, and therefore cannot be changed. Once you created and saved an Account, you cannot change its ID.

2) Using Mass Data Maintenance, you cannot import new Accounts into the system. Mass Data Maintenance tool is used to modify already existing records, but it is not possible to upload new data in the system.
