2698891 - User Get Error Formula Result And Field to be Updated Are Not of Same Type


When you want to create a workflow Rule, for updating the 'Expected Value' field of the Opportunity based on the Extension Fields 'Example' and 'Example1'.

Both Extension Fields are of type Amount, same type as the Expected Value. you get the error "Formula result and field to be updated are not of same type"

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to the Administrator work center.
  2. Choose the view Work Flow Rules.
  3. Choose the button New.
  4. Enter the Description.
  5. Choose Opportunity in the field Business Object.
  6. Choose button Next.
  7. Define the Conditions.
  8. Choose the button Next.
  9. In Define Actions view.
  10. Choose Field Update as Rule Type.
  11. Choose the button Add.
  12. In the New Screen Under Field Choose Expected value.
  13. Choose Update type as Formula.
  14. Choose Add Row
  15. Enter the Place Holders as #Example# and #Example1# (#Example# and #Example1# represents extension fields)
  16. Choose the button Syntax Check.



You get the error "Formula result and field to be updated are not of same type" because if field update is via Formula, if Source field ( Field which has to be updated ) is of type Amount, Measure or Quantity then currently Placeholder with single digit is only possible.


The list of placeholder which can be used are: #1#, #2# , #3# , #4#, #5#, #6#, #7#, #8#, #9#, #A#, #B# . ( In alphabet only A and  B is allowed )

It is an existing system behavior and is planned to be enhanced in current 1808 release.
