2585757 - 'Undefined Date Format' Info Message While Uploading Fixed Assets Migration File

Symptom

You are trying to upload a file for Migration Object Fixed Assets (extended) in the Migration Tool and right after the upload the system is throwing info message:

'Undefined Date Format

Some date entries are in error; enter dates in the format YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS before initiating the migration'.

Since it is only an info message you click OK and proceed to Process File, however the file validation fails with the error message:

'File validation failed. Create an incident.'

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to Business Configuration work center;
  2. Go to Overview view;
  3. Search and open activity Migration of Accounting Transaction Data;
  4. Select the row of Migration Unit for Company ABC;
  5. Click Execute Migration button;
  6. Select the row of Migration Object Fixed Assets (extended) and click Upload File;
  7. Select the XML file and upload it;

At this point, system will throw the info/warning message:

'Undefined Date Format

Some date entries are in error; enter dates in the format YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS before initiating the migration'.

If you ignore it, by clicking OK, and proceed to Process File, the file validation will fail with error message:

'File validation failed. Create an incident.'

ABC means the Company for which you are trying to migrate fixed assets.

Cause

The XML file contains a Date format which is not compliant with the Date format that system is expecting.

For example:

In the XML file you have Date format as DD.MM.YYYY (for example 31.01.2017), but system is expecting Date format YYYY-MM-DD (for example 2017-01-31).

Resolution

You should change the Date format in the XML migration file to the format that system is expecting (in the example analyzed YYYY-MM-DD).

For example in Microsoft Excel this change can be done to a whole column at once by selecting the respective column and changing via Home tab > Number section > Date category > YYYY-MM-DD type.

Please remember to do this action for every single Date cell in the XML file.

Once you finish the changes you can upload the file again and proceed to Process File. If no other issues exist the file validation will finish successfully this time.
