In the Development Plan, you want to add Competencies when adding a Development Goal, but there is no Competency field to see:

Reproducing the Issue

Go to:

  1. Development >
  2. Click on 'Add New Goal' >
  3. No Competencies available for selection in the popup

The Development Plan template has not been configured to display competencies.

If you already have Competency libraries  in your instance, your Partner/ Consultant or Professional Services can configure the template, to make Competency fields appear.

To do so:

1. A filter section needs to be added to the Development Plan template XML. Below is an example where I have included two categories from the library 'SFPART005113' and one from the library 'SuccessFactors'

Example of competency filters in dev template

Note: In this example I do not want to include Competencies from forms, roles or skills, so I set these to '<exclude'

2. Make sure you have the competency field definition configured:

Field definition example

3. That the read and write permissions are configured:

xml permissions competency

4. And the competency entry has been added to the layout section:

5. Import in Provisioning and now you will see the Competency field appearing when adding a goal, with all the Competencies in alphabetical order.

Browse Competency feature

It is also possible to add a 'Browse Competency' link to the same interface, which will show you all your libraries and their respective Competencies.

To do so:

1. Add the switch: "<switch for="show-competency-browser" value="on" />" to yoiur switch section in the Development template. Example:

example of switches for competency browser

Note: to hide the feature, just set the value to "off".

2. Save and upload the template in Provisioning.

3. You will now see the Browser option displaying:

Add Competencies link

Note: by clicking on this and then on the dropdown, you will see all the libraries, with their respective competencies, in the system

Above you can see that there are two libaraies in this instance, and below the dropdown menu, you can see the competencies grouped into their categories.
