2581201 - Prerequisite failed when attempting to install an update to Crystal Reports

Symptom

  • Prerequisite failed.
  • Fails at the prerequisites check, when trying to install a product update for Crystal Reports.
  • When attempting to install a Support Pack or Patch for Crystal Reports for Enterprise, it fails at the prerequisites. The prerequisite states SAP Crystal Reports is not installed, despite it is installed on the computer.

Environment

  • SAP Crystal Reports 2011
  • SAP Crystal Reports 2013
  • SAP Crystal Reports 2016
       
  • SAP Crystal Reports for Enterprise 4.0
  • SAP Crystal Reports for Enterprise 4.1
  • SAP Crystal Reports for Enterprise 4.2

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Download Crystal Reports Support Pack or Patch.
  2. On a computer where Crystal Reports for Enterprise is installed, install the product update.
  3. The installation fails at the Prerequisites Check because it states SAP Crystal Reports is not installed.

Cause

  • The reason this is occuring, it's because there is two different version of Crystal Reports:
     - SAP Crystal Reports; and
     - SAP Crystal Reports for Enterprise
     
    And the computer on which you are attempting to install the Support Pack or Patch have Crystal Reports for Enterprise installed, but the Support Pack or Patch you are trying to install is for Crystal Reports, and not Crystal Reports for Enterprise.
          
    The same issue will occur when trying to install a Crystal Reports for Enterprise product update, on a computer where only Crystal Reports is installed.

Resolution

  • Download and install a Support Pack or Patch corresponding to the version of Crystal Reports installed on the computer.
     
  • To donwload the Support Pack or Patch corresponding to the version of Crystal Reports used, follow the steps below:
       
     
    • For Crystal Reports for Enterprise
        
      1. Go to the SAP Software Downloads page at: https://launchpad.support.sap.com/#/softwarecenter
              
      2. In the SAP Software Downloads page, select the tab "Support Packages and Patches"
             
      3. Under "By Category", select "Analytics Solutions"
          
      4. In the "Analytics Solutions" page select: "SBOP BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE PLATFORM (SBOP ENTERPRISE)"
          
      5. Then select: 
        • SBOP BI PLATFORM (ENTERPRISE) 
        • Select the desired product version, for example:  SBOP BI PLATFORM 4.1 
        • CR FOR ENTERPRISE 4.1     ( If the previous selection was 4.1 ) 
        • Windows Server on IA32 32bit
              
      6. It will then display at the bottom of the window, the list of the available Support Packages and Patches to downloads for Crystal Reports for Enterprise.

          
    • For Crystal Reports 
        
      1. Go to the SAP Software Downloads page at: https://launchpad.support.sap.com/#/softwarecenter
          
      2. In the SAP Software Downloads page, select the tab "Support Packages and Patches"
          
      3. Under "By Category", select "Analytics Solutions"
         
      4. In the "Analytics Solutions" page select: "Crystal Reports"
         
      5. In the Crystal Reports page, select the desired version of Crystal Reports, like "SAP Crystal Reports 2016"
          
      6. Then select again the version of Crystal Reports again, like SAP Crystal Reports 2016
           
      7. It will then display at the bottom of the window, the list of the available Support Packages and Patches to downloads for Crystal Reports 

       

    • Note: If you have any questions or issues downloading Crystal Reports or Crystal Reports for Enterprise updates, create an incident under the component: XX-SER-SAPSMP-SWC, and include any errors you receive or a screenshot if the package isn't available.
