We are creating non-recurring / one time deduction for employees which are going for approval. Noticed that if the approver does not have edit authorization, he cannot approve.
This looks like a defect because for any other pay component approval(recurring, Non-recurring payments), their edit authorization is not needed for approver.

Non-recurring(Spot Bonus/ payComponentNonRecurring) and recurring payments (payComponentRecurring) logic is coded in software. And configured in Succession Data Model.
Deductions portlet feature is configured in MDF object (Metadata Framework technology is used). It's not configured in Succession Data Model.
Deduction workflow approver require, edit permission on the pay component to be able to approve the workflow.
This permission is not required for compensation information portlet.
This is an expected behavior because the technology used in Compensation Information and Deductions are different.
Compensation information is part of core feature its feature configuration is written in software code.
Deductions portlet however has its feature configuration in the Metadata Framework (MDF object).
Hence, pay component edit permission is required for the deductions workflow approvers.
Workaround is to change the workflow approver steps configuration, by changing the value of "Respect permission" =No.
