2563741 - Unable to Access the Production RMK Career Site - Recruiting Marketing

Symptom

This article explains why a productive RMK Career Site might not be accessible to users on the Internet or within the customer environment.

Errors encountered can be: This site can’t be reached. DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN, 502 Bad Gateway, ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED

Environment

SAP SuccessFactors Recruiting Marketing (RMK)

Reproducing the Issue

  1. In your browser, type the career site's URL and hit enter.
  2. The site is not accessible with various errors

Cause

IMPORTANT NOTE: Since November 2021 customers have to use the new SSL Certificate tab in Career Site Builder to install or renew their SSL Certificates. Product Support is no longer part of the certificate installation and renewal process. For new implementations, partners have to use the SSL Certificates tab for the certificate installation as well.

This type of error is most likely linked to the fact that the DNS (Domain Name System) isn't mapped to any IP address on the Internet.

DNS is a system that points a domain name to an IP address. For instance, when a user types www.store.com in their browser and hits enter, the DNS servers resolve it to the IP address where the website is hosted. The purpose of DNS is to use easy to remember domain names for websites instead of their numeric IP addresses. It also enables website owners to change their web hosts without changing domain names. Website owners can simply change the DNS entry for their domain name and point to their new web host’s name servers.

Resolution

In the context of a production RMK Career Site, after the certificate installation process is completed, an automated process triggers a DNS action on SAP's and creates an entry such as:

<siteid>.jobs2web.com   ====== pointing to  =======> A.B.C.D

This is typically done within 24 hours. Once this is done, the following actions need to be performed on the customer's side:

           1. Action on the DNS at customer's end:

                                     Add CNAME record as

                                         jobs.<company>.com ==> shall point to ==> <siteid>.jobs2web.com

                                      CNAME Record is a resource record to define that a domain name is an alias for another domain name.

                                     Example:

                                     Name → CNAME
                                     jobs.example.com → siteid.jobs2web.com

                                     After adding the above CNAME record entry in a domain’s DNS records, visiting jobs.example.com will take users to example.jobs2web.com website.

Important note: both internal and external DNS records will need to be created to allow access to the site from within the customer environment as well as from the outside

          2. Implementation partner can then modify the Site URL in CSB from example.jobs2web84.com to jobs.example.com
