2562096 - Error Deactivating a Position - You cannot deactivate the position because at least one Matrix Relationship exists for this position

Symptom

When trying to deactivate a position from the Position Org Chart or Manage Positions, you receive an error:
"You cannot deactivate the position because at least one Matrix Relationship exists for this position"

Environment

SAP Successfactors Employee Central: Position Management

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Navigate to Manage Position or Position Org Chart.
  2. Open the position that needs to be set as inactive.
  3. Set the status as inactive and Save.
  4. Error appears

Cause

The error is displayed as the position being deactivated has at least one matrix relationship attached to it.

Resolution

  1. Navigate to the Positon Org Chart.
  2. Search for the position you wish to deactivate.
  3. On the right-hand side select the "Display Options" button (the eye icon).
  4. Select the checkbox for "Matrix Positions"
  5. The Position Org chart will load again, to show the Matrix Relationships.
  6. You will now see position that are referenced by the impacted position with matrix relationships via a dotted line in the hierarchy.
  7. Once you have highlighted which positions are related. You will need to insert a new record in those positions, with the same effective date you wish to set the Position to inactive and remove it from the matrix relationships.
