You try to depreciate a Fixed Asset amount from the previous fiscal year into the current fiscal year but this is not possible in the system even when you change the Depreciation Start Date.
All Business ByDesign Versions, both valid for HTML5 and Silverlight.
Reproducing the Issue
Go to the Fixed Assets Work Center.
Select the Fixed Assets View.
Show Capitalized Fixed Assets and Fixed Assets In Process and find XXX (where XXX represents the Fixed Assets in Process) and press Go.
Highlight the Fixed Asset XXX and press Edit - Values.
Switch to the tab Depreciation Overview.
You can see that the Depreciation Amounts start with e.g. April 2016. You expect that this amount must be posted in october 2017. But on march 2016 only a zero amount of depreciation is there which cannot be posted in 2017.
The reason why this depreciation has not been posted into the year 2017 is that you ran the Depreciation Run for period e.g. october 2017. In order to post the Depreciation you had to have carried out the depreciation run for 2016 (any period there). But since it is not possible to depreciate an amount from one fiscal year (2016) to another one (2017) this is designed system behavior and you have no possibility from a system point of view to post the amount from march 2016 to a 2017 period.
This is desired system behavior. You can use a workaround which is not exactly a depreciation but a manual adjustment.
- Go to the Fixed Assets Work Center and Select the Fixed Assets View.
- Select Fixed Asset in question XXX.
- Press Manual Posting - Manual Depreciation.
- Depreciation Type is 3-Write Down.
- Relating to is 2-previous years.
- You can choose a valuation view.
- Debit / Credit is set to Credit.
- Leave the rest of the variables as they are.
This Manual Posting credits the Accumulated Depreciation Account and debits the Depreciation Expenses Account.
