FAQ

Q) Does the Contingent Worker feature for Employee Central support Country-Specific fields?
A) Yes. Please refer to the Setting Up and Using Business Configuration UI (BCUI): Configuring Country-Specific Person Type in BCUI page in the handbook

Q) Can you convert Employment from Full-Time Employee to Contingent Worker or vice versa?
A) Yes. Please refer to the relevant pages in the handbook:

Q) When Employment from Full-Time Employee to Contingent Worker or vice versa, what is the implication if you have EC Payroll?
A) EC Payroll will filter out the Contingent Workers automatically, and therefore should cause no problems with Payroll.

Q) If using the Contingent Worker feature, can you exclude these records from the Home Page Manager tiles (alerts) to eliminate Birthdate and Anniversary notifications?
A) The Date of Birth field is not captured for Contingent Workers, so this should not be an issue in the tiles on the Home Page of Managers. Hire Date is captured for Contingent Workers, but as Contingent Workers are temporary workers, it is unlikely they would be hired for a period long enough to be flagged as an Anniversary. We use the Manage Business Configuration tool to configure the fields for Contingent Workers.

Q) What’s different about the Contingent Worker record? Is it only the “Is Contingent Worker” flag?
A) No. There is a concept behind the Contingent Worker model. The flag “Is Contingent Worker” is only the technical field, which is set once the Contingent Worker is created via the Add Contingent Worker wizard or via Imports/API. It does not need to be set manually in UI, but does need to be specified during Imports/API.

Q) What happens to the UserID as users go through Employment changes, such as Rehiring Contingent Worker as Full-Time Employee or vice versa?
A) Contingent Workers and Employees have different types of Employments. Employments are defined by UserID. Thus you shall have different UserIDs when the Employment changes.

NOTE: Person ID = This will always remain the same for the person, and is the key value used to tie the different Employments (UserID's) to the person. Here are some examples of what happens in the different Rehire scenarios, and the one ID that always remains constant no matter how many new employments a person has = PersonID:

  • Contingent Worker Rehired as Contingent Worker = UserID stays the same.
  • Contingent Worker Rehired as Full-Time Employee = New UserID is created for the new Employment. Old UserID is maintained as Inactive. Both Employments can still be accessed in People Profile and by permissioned users.
  • Full-Time Employee Rehired as Contingent Worker = New UserID is created for the new Employment. Old UserID is maintained as Inactive. Both Employments can still be accessed in People Profile and by permissioned users.
  • Full-Time Employee Rehired as Full-Time Employee = UserID stays the same.
  • Full-Time Employee Rehired "with a new employment" = New UserID is created for the new Employment. Old UserID is maintained as Inactive. Both Employments can still be accessed in People Profile and by permissioned users.

Q) Can the Manager field be optional for Contingent Workers?
A) Yes.

Q) If a Manager only has a Contingent Worker reporting to him/her, is the Manager considered a “regular” user?
A) Yes, the Manager is considered a regular user. Note that, No Manager can also be assigned if you are not using Work Order Owner.
