How to set Permissions for External Background Checks

Enabling the Background Check with External Third Party Vendor has 7 parts that a client needs to do.

Permission users and status sets to allow recruiting users to initiate background checks.


You can only initiate a background check from the applicant statuses with the proper permissions. Only users who have the proper permissions are able to initiate background checks.
The permissions set in the Application XML do not apply to the two associated APIs - JobApplicationBackgroundCheckRequest and JobApplicationBackgroundCheckResult. You can check the status of the job with a separate API call if necessary.


1.Add the feature permissions block for background check to the Job Requisition XML.

2.Grant initiate background check permissions.

  • For instances with RBP permissions, navigate to Admin Center > Manager Permission Roles. Select the role, then click Permisssion > Recruiting Permissions, then enable the Background Check Initiate Permission checkbox. Click Done to save.
  • For non-RBP instances, navigate to Admin Center > Recruiting Permissions and enable the Background Check Initiate Permission checkbox.
