2505026 - Depreciation Run Does not Execute Postings For Migrated Fixed Assets

Symptom

You have migrated Fixed Assets for your company recently, with migration posting date set in the last period of the previous fiscal year XXXX. You are now starting the depreciation run for the first period of the current fiscal year, 001.YYYY.
You expect the depreciation run to generate deprecation postings. Instead, an information message appears: For the selected fixed assets, posting not required in set of books ABC (ABC stands for the respective set of books ID).

Reproducing the Issue

  1. In the Fixed Assets workcenter navigate to the Periodic Tasks - Depreciation view.
  2. Select the just executed deprecation run and press View.
  3. In the Postings tab you notice that no postings have been generated.
  4. In the Messages tab you are informed that For the selected fixed assets, posting [are] not required in set of books ABC.

Cause

At the time of the Fixed Asset Migration the current fiscal year YYYY was created but all periods of this fiscal year were closed. Currently,in this situation,  the system stores all deprecation values in the last period of the fiscal year.
To verify this you can check the planned depreciation values in the Deprecation report:

  1. In the Fixed Assets workscenter go to the Reports - List view.
  2. Open the Depreciation report.
  3. Maintain the respective Company, Set of Books and Valuation view.
  4. In the Accounting Period/Year field select Current Fiscal Year.
  5. Press Go.
  6. Now add the characteristics Fixed Asset, Fiscal Year and Accounting Period from the Not Currently Shown section to the Rows section.
  7. You will now see that the full depreciation amount of the current fiscal year is stored in the last fiscal period 012.YYYY.

Resolution

It is planned to enhance the system behaviour in the near future so that the depreciation values are stored from the start of the fiscal year even if all accounting periods are closed.

For now, the following solution applies in this situation:

Once at least one of the current fiscal year accounting periods are open you can trigger a recalculation of the depreciation values by executing a recalculating depreciation run:

  1. In the Fixed Assets workcenter navigate to the Periodic Tasks - Depreciation view.
  2. Press New - Fixed Asset Depreciation Run.
  3. Enter the Company.
  4. In the Period/Year field enter period 999 and Year 9999.

This will trigger the recalculation of all fixed asset depreciation values. All amounts will be stored per period. Please note: The recalculation run does not generate any postings itself.

After the Recalculation run execute the Depreciation run for an actual accounting period of Fiscal year YYYY to post depreciation values.
