You are executing a report, however the system either crashes or you receive an XML error message.
SAP Business ByDesign.
Reproducing the Issue
One example of report could be:
- Go to General Ledger work center.
- Go to Lists view.
- Open G/L Account - Line Items report.
- Fill in the selection parameters.
- Click Go.
Error message: See XML error message in property XmlMessage
You may also get a system-crash when exporting data to Excel via Download button.
Taking as example the G/L Account - Line Items. This report shows all line items on your G/L accounts and even include the journal entry line items for each journal entry of a given G/L Account, hence this report can easily lead into a time-out.
Whether or not the report runs through can also depend on what other system activities are performed at this time, which background jobs are running, your local internet connection etc. For this reason, the data set size may vary.
You shall also consider that both the analytics framework in the application as well as the Excel add-in are subject to time outs when handling an over-dimensioned number of records, which imposes some limits to data extraction.
This is not only a matter of number of rows but also number of columns in the report. In the current example, if you remove the characteristic Journal Entry Item the number of records may be considerably reduced.
In such cases, you need to adapt the selection parameter in order to retrieve a suitable number of records and donwload.
You may, for example, define an accounting period and also define a posting date range within this acconting period
Further selection parameters can be included in the report as follows:
- Click Add Fields button
- Expand the dimensions and include in the report the required fields to refine your selection.
