Roambi Cloud Automation Overview
Keeping the data available through Roambi updated regularly is an important consideration – the fresher the data is, the more likely that users will be able to use the information effectively to the benefit of the business. It is now an almost autonomous action for users to just reach into their pockets to look at their phone, capitalizing on this by ensuring there is a flow of new and relevant data in Roambi will help ensure that you get the best return from your Roambi investment.
Although Roambi Business allows updated Excel or csv files to be uploaded though the web interface, when putting Roambi Business into production you will need to consider how best to automate the updating of data. There are several options for you to consider:
RoambiScript is a simple application that you can download to your workstation or server to allow for the automation of uploading and refreshing data used by Roambi views. It can also be used to create folders, set sync properties, delete files/folders and set permissions.
It is command line driven allowing simple batch scripts to be created easily. It can be initiated by schedulers, ETL processes, excel macros or other system processes.

Note that for users of IBM Cognos, SAP Business Objects, Microsoft Reporting Services or Talend ETL there are extensions to RoambiScript available to accelerate development of automation - these are documented here.
The Roambi API is designed for application developers and provides a RESTful API for programmatic access to your data in the Roambi Library, the remote file system (RFS) that is hosted by Roambi Business. This API uses the JSON format for data and OAuth for Authorization and Authentication.
All aspects of Roambi API are modeled as structured objects. These objects and structures were designed to be intuitive and simple to use. For example, a "folder" object represents a storage destination, a "user" object has associated "roles" and "access level", and a collection of "files" can be used to determine the content of the "folder".

Online File-Sharing & Content Management Services
Roambi currently supports two online file-sharing services – box.com and Google Drive. This means that Excel files, CSV files and – in the case of Google Drive – Google Sheets can be used as source files for Roambi visualizations.
These services open out a number of other options for making data available to users – for example files can be emailed or FTP’d into box.com, while Google sheets offer a number of data connection options, some built in, some from third parties.
Note that Roambi is completely respectful of the permissions of files in these services – if you have used a Google or box.com file to build a Roambi view the user will be prompted to supply valid Google/box.com credentials to access the file when they first try to access the view in the Roambi app.
