When we are lauching a course in the LMS at times we might receive a 404 error which either means the content doesn't exist in the URL mentioned or the URL is incorrect.
1) LMS with iContent
2) LMS with CDS(content hosted in a differnet server)
Reproducing the Issue
Learning Plan->Item->Launch course->404 error
1) If the content is hosted in your content server:
- The content doesn't exist in the URL that you have mentioned in the "Filename" of the Launch Method. Please make sure it exist in the location that update the Filename in the "Launch Method" of the Content Object accordingly.
2) If the content is hosted in iContent:
a) If the content was uploaded to the iContent with the help of Deployment Location, make sure that the URL Prefix and Directory are in Sync. For example: If you are uploading all the contents to a folder called "Prod" in the iContent, then along with the URL prefix that you recieved when the iContent was provisioined, please append the folder as well in the URL Prefix of the Deploymen Location. It should look like the screenshot below :
In the above image the actual URL Prefix provided when the iContent account was provisioned is: "/icontent/CUSTOM/support" and the folder that all my contents goes to is "Vish"(a folder created in the root directory of the iContent SFTP) and hence the updated URP Prefix here should be "/icontent/CUSTOM/support/Vish". If the contents were uploaded without this, we will still receive the 404 error for the existing contents and in this case either delete the existing content in the LMS and in the SFTP, create a new one or edit the Filename in the "Launch Method" of the Content Object as shown below.
OLD URL with 404 : https://customername.plateau.com/icontent/CUSTOM/support/Vish-SampleFile.pdf
Updated URL : https://customername.plateau.com/icontent/CUSTOM/support/Vish/Vish-SampleFile.pdf
b) If the URL Prefix and Directory of the Deployemnt Location is correct, then the issue could be with the iContent configuration in the system. Please raise a new CS incident and request us to check the iContent configuration at the applciation and server level and if we find any issues, we'd fix it for you.
