Reproducing the Issue

Before opening an case with Product Support

Please be sure that before you open a support case with Product Support, you have performed the following sanity checks on your configuration/data - bearing in mind most issues are due to a configuration issue -:

  • Check that the field configuration for the fields you are synchronizing from and to, is correct according to the Employee Central Master implementation handbook. If the field is a picklist or Object related field, ensure that the related picklist/object is configured correctly on the source but not defined on the target
  • Has the configuration changed recently?
  • Can the recent change be un-done and if so, please try revert any recent changes and see whether the problem persists?
  • Can the issue be reproduced for just 1 or multiple users?
    • If the issue is reproducible for all users it is still likely to be a configuration issue.
    • If it seems to be related to 1 or a small user population - the next step is to check and verify that the data is correct. 

Sync Mapping Configuration - It is always best practice to check and verify that the field you have enabled for a particular hris-element is valid for that element. Please refer to the "Data Object Tables" handbook under the section "Reference Information" which details what fields are supported, and how the field should be configured. Some of the more common issues encountered are due to trying to re-purpose delivered fields to do something else. Please note - the following is a list of things you should not do when configuring fields

  • Do not add a custom sync mapping to your configuration that already exists as a Hard-Coded (pre-delivered) sync mapping
  • Do not configure an Object field to use a picklist - for example do not add a picklist to the field "company" in the jobInfo hris-element - this is not supported and not best practice
  • Has a sync mapping been changed? If so, have you run a Full HRIS Sync to ensure all current data is correctly synchronized?

Data Issues - A lot of common issues are due to sync-mapping configurations that have been changed recently, or, the configuration of a source field has changed recently. This commonly leads to Data issues which could possibly cause the HRIS Sync to fail.

  • Has there been a configuration change to Source or Destination fields?
  • Have you run an Person and Employment Export Ad Hoc report to verify the data is correct?

HRIS Sync Troubleshooting Tips and Tricks

Most of the issues you will encouner with the HRIS Sync will be data related issues (invalid data types or null/blank data being passed to EP fields). Below are some techniques/examples you can use to troubleshoot HRIS Sync issues, before looking to reach out to the team/Nexus/Engineering for answers :

Job Failure due to Execution Limit: 

If the job fails due to execution limitations it will detail the following error in the Job Details:

  • job failed because it exceeded the daily scheduling threshold for execution

If a job fails due to this job execution guardrails, it is recommended to review the configuration of the job and adjust the recurrence to ensure it complies with the job execution guardrails detail in the WNV: ECT-207756: More Employee Central Jobs on Job Scheduler in Scheduled Job Manager

To do this please ensure you have the required permission to access Scheduled Job Manager from the Admin Center.

This requires you have the permission:

  • Administrator > Admin Center Permissions >  Monitor Scheduled Jobs
  • Administrator > Admin Center Permissions > Manage Scheduled Jobs

Different job types might have additional module-specific permission controls. Steps to change the recurrence of a job:

  1. Ensure you have the required permission detailed above 
  2. Navigate to Scheduled Job Manager
  3. Select "Job Scheduler" Tab 
  4. Filter for the desired Job Type
  5. For the desired job select Actions> Cancel 
  6. Once the job is canceled select Actions> Edit 
  7. Adjust the recurrence to comply with the job execution guardrails
  8. Ensure all required fields are filled out 
  9. Submit
