How to use Average Rating Filter to search for items in the User Catalog 2.0 Search and how LMS behaves when using this filter


  • As per the current functionality we do not have an option to add more than 5 rating to the item
  • However if there is any requirement to add the rating scale please post this idea on community and as per the votes it will added in the coming releases

Reproducing the Issue

  • Each learning item can be rated when it is completed by users
  • This allows future users to use the Average Star Rating Filter to search for items rated by other users


How to enable the Item Rating:

  1. Login to Learning Admin
  2. Navigate to Learning > Items
  3. Search for the item that you want to enable the User Rating
  4. Edit it & Click on "View All"

  5. Look for "Enable User Rating"
  6. Change to "YES"
  7. Ensure that Course Rating field is also visible in Item. If not, then add "Course Rating" field from System Admin > Configurations > Record Configurations > Items > Search Course Rating > Add > Save
  8. Now click "Save"

  9. After enabling it, users will be able to rate the item upon completion.

Using Average Filter in the User Catalog Search.

  1. Go to the User Catalog Search (via LMS or BizX)
  2. Select in the Average Filter the item rating that you want to see AT LEAST
  3. For example, if you select 2 stars in the filter (screenshot below) this is going to bring all 2 star courses plus the higher scored courses

If after making the configuration changes above, the Average Rating bucket is missing in the User Catalog Search screen, check that the feature is enabled in LMS System Configuration:

  1. Navigate to System Admin> Configuration > System Configuration
  2. Edit the "CATALOG" configuration file

  3. Search for catalogSearchFilters[Rating]=
  4. Set it to true
  5. Also check that showItemRatingInCatalog=true
  6. Click "Apply Changes" to save changes
  7. Go to the Catalog Search within the user side and test it
