2233344 - Lumira Desktop and Micosoft SQL Server JDBC Driver Compatibility

You want to use the Query with SQL option in SAP Lumira Desktop to connect to Microsoft SQL Server database to perform data visualization.

According to Lumira Desktop Product Availability Matrix, as of version 1.28, SQL Server 2008, 2012 and 2014 are supported.

Lumira Desktop connects to SQL Server using Microsoft JDBC driver. It is available for download on Microsoft website: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=11774. The latest version is 4.2 (file name: sqljdbc_4.2.6420.100_enu.exe), which runs on the Java Development Kit (JDK) version 5.0, 6.0, 7.0, and 8.0.

The self-executable will extract 4 different versions of the JDBC driver:

• sqljdbc.jar
• Not recommended
• sqljdbc4.jar
• Recommended and documented in Lumira Desktop PAM (as of version 1.28). Compatible with SQL Server 2008, 2012 and 2014
• sqljdbc41.jar
• Not recommended
• sqljdbc42.jar
• Does not work with Lumira Desktop, will generate the error "java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: com/microsoft/sqlserver/jdbc/SQLServerDriver : Unsupported major.minor version 52.0"

In the JDBC download package you'll also find a file named sqljdbc_auth.dll, it is required if you want to use Integrated Authentication (kerberos) when connecting from Lumira Desktop to SQL Server. For more information please refer KBA 2181269
