How to associate Documents to an Item or a Schedule Offering.


SuccessFactors Learning Management System (LMS) - All Supported Versions


LMS has a feature using which you can associate the item/Schedule offering with one or more related documents so that users can access the documents in the user interface.

Step 1 : The First step in this is to create a Document.

Navigate to Content > Documents > Add new

Enter the Document ID and other details, the most important thing in the above form is the File Path of the document.

You can specify a direct website link to a document or you can specify the location of a document which is there in your icontent server.

Example: Direct website link : https://www.iscp.ie/sites/default/files/pdf-sample.pdf

Link to a file in icontent server : /icontent/CUSTOM/sf_support/deepak_content/Documents/test_document.pptx

(in the above icontent link, “/icontent/CUSTOM/sf_support/” is the prefix of the content server and “deepak_content/Documents/test_document.pptx” is the path of the actual file.

After filling all the details Click “Add”

WARNING: Please note that if entitlement service active, then setting the filename to the entitlement link (i.e. setting the above  filename to the content object filename) will not work. Entitlement service will block the document from launching with error "Sorry. Your request has been denied". It is required that an 'unentitled' area be set aside on icontent. This is not possible for all customers.  Please create an low priority incident with this request.

Step 2 : The second Step is to associate the documents to an Item.

Navigate to the Item/Schedule Offering to which you want to add the Items, click on more in the related section as shown below


In the opened pop-up select Documets


Enter the Document ID which you created earlier (or an existing one) and Click “Add”, the document gets associated with the Item. You can add multiple documents from this section.

How does this appear on the user side?

When the Item or Schedule Offerings gets assigned to the user, the user has to click on the Item (not the Start Course Button) which takes them to the Item details page.


Click on the number/attachment Icon, and the users can see the attachments as shown below.


Clicking on the hyperlink of the documents will download the document or it will open them in the browser depending on the document type.
