You have executed a GR/IR Clearing run, which ended up in error due to a retired fixed asset.
Reproducing the Issue
- Go to Inventory Valuation work center.
- Go to GR/IR Clearing Run.
- View the concerned run and navigate to the Messages tab.
The following error is shown: Individual material is only assigned to retired fixed assets.
You are procuring an asset via purchase order process. However, you manually scrapped the fixed asset which was acquired via goods receipt before you executed the GR/IR clearing run. Hence the GR/IR run is not able to post price differences to any fixed asset.
For solving this error, you should first reverse the scrapping of the fixed asset and then execute the GR/IR clearing. The advice would be to always do any transfer/retirement transactions on any fixed asset only after executing the GR/IR clearing if the asset is acquired via a Goods Receipt or an Invoice, since in such scenario the offsetting account belongs to the Fixed Asset ledger.
The more frequently you execute GR/IR clearing runs, the more accurate the calculations involving the moving average cost or fixed assets will be. Depending on the degree of accuracy you require, you can execute clearing runs quarterly, at the end of each period, or as often as daily.
