2167463 - Subject Area for Skillsoft courses showing subject area ID instead of description for certain user locales

Symptom

  • Subject Area for Skillsoft courses showing subject area ID instead of subject area description for certain user locales
  • E.g. correct subject area description shown in English user locale, but on the subject area ID (e.g. SKILLSOFT_XXX) displayed for French user locale

Environment

  • SuccessFactors Learning 1502

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Use the OLSA item and OLSA subject area connectors to add Skillsoft courses to SF Learning
  2. Within the OLSA item connector input file, set  the LEARNING field to "ENUS" (English/US) for all courses
  3. Run both OLSA connectors
  4. Login to SF Learning as a user with English locale settings
  5. Navigate to "Browse all courses" -> "Subjec Areas"
  6. Notice the subject area description is dispayed as expected
  7. Repeat step 4. and 5. as a user with a non-English locale (e.g. French)
  8. Instead of the description, subject area ID (e.g. SKILLSOFT_XXXX) is shown for subject areas of the recently added learning items

Cause

  • OLSA connectors adds the subject area description only in the learnings item's default locale
  • The default locale is set by the LANGUAGE field in the OLSA item connector input file
  • If the LANGUAGE field is set to EN the connector will only add the subject area description for the English locale
  • Only the English subject area descritpion is available, hence for users with non-English locale, display will default to the subject area ID

Resolution

  • At the moment, the OLSA connector is not able to update subject areas descriptions in multiple locales
