2160679 - Remove or Delete Job Relationship records via Import

Symptom

How to delete existing records from  “Job Relationships” portlet  through an import?

Environment

Employee Central: Job Relationship

Reproducing the Issue

There are many employees who have a Second Manager assigned to them. The new business requirement is not to have any Second Manager for any employee in the system.

We will try to remove the Second Manager field value through import in Admin Centre --> Manage Employees --> Update User Information --> Import Employee Data --> Job Relationships --> Incremental Load. But we receive a validation error message while validating the following import file.

When we modify the import file with “NULL” in the “rel-user-id” field, we still get validation error.

When we modify the import file with “NO_MANAGER” in the “rel-user-id” field, we still get validation error.

Cause

It is not possible to remove existing Job Relationships through NO_MANAGER / NULL or by simply leaving the rel-user-id field blank in the import file.

Resolution

To fix this issue, we use DELIMIT. We can delimit data records to do the following:

1. Delete a data record not completely, but only as of a certain effective date
2. Delete partial information for non-effective data entities

Note that this feature is supported only for incremental loads - meaning it is not supported for full purge import. We can use DELIMIT in the import file as the following.
Sample file:

Upon successful validation and import, we see that the Second Manager field has been removed from the employee’s new record.
