2142935 - BULLETIN: Changes to Item database table could impact Custom Reports - Learning


This bulletin advises Learning customers of a universal enhancement to the Item database table that  impacts custom reports with queries on this table. The change was released in the b1408 update and this document provides important information regarding impacts of the change and how to adapt existing Learning systems.

How to Tell if This Bulletin Applies to You

If you created custom reports that query the following tables then this bulletin applies to you:

  • PA_CPNT (Items)
  • PA_CPNT_TYPE (Item type)
  • PS_CPNT_CLASSIFICATION (Item Classification)
  • PA_STUD_CPNT (Items Assigned to Users)

Overview of Feature Enhancement

The b1408 update added two new features to the Learning product – QuickGuides and Programs.  Although QuickGuides and Programs are independent entities in user interface, they are stored as Learning Item records in the database, which impacts a few related tables. In other words, if you looked only at the PA_CPNT table, Learning Items, QuickGuides, and Programs would appear as identical records (they would all look like Learning Items).

To distinguish between Learning Items, QuickGuides, and Programs, we created views for the impacted tables.  These new views start with “PV_”.

Upgrade Impacts

With the new mapping of Learning Item to the view table, existing custom reports that use the PA or PS tables may output results that include Programs and QuickGuides when filters are not applied.  These reports need to be re-mapped to the new tables in order to always exclude those entities.

The following areas of the application are automatically upgraded to use the new table and will not require customers to make any modifications to their systems:

  • Application user interface
  • System reports
  • Online Report Designer
  • Workforce Analytics metrics pack
  • Connectors
  • Extensions

The following areas of the application are automatically upgraded for the new table, but may require updating outside of the standard upgrade in order to continue to function properly:

  • Data services extracts
  • Customized Search Selectors

 Customizations and extensions may also require modifications to upgrade those capabilities.

Action to Take

Review any custom reports that query the listed tables. In most cases, you should modify the report to use the PV_ table.

Again, if you have not created custom reports that query the specified tables, you do not need to take action.
