You've created a Withholding Tax Return Run with Tax Return Type 3 - Miscellaneous Income (1099 Misc) - FormB. The run generates a Withholding Tax Return, which contains the 1099-MISC FormB (form "Copy B") separately for each supplier. When you preview the document you notice that the RECIPIENT’S identification number field is blank for one or more suppliers. It's not printed out on the form. As a consequence the form is not valid and you cannot print it out.
This Case Document is relevant for Country Version US - United States only.
Reproducing the Issue
- Go to Tax Management work center
- Go to Tax Returns > Withholding Tax Returns view
- Select the newly created Tax Return ID, with Tax Return Status In Preparation, and click Preview button
The 1099-MISC FormB opens in a new browser window and you notice that the RECIPIENT'S identification number field is blank for one or more suppliers.
The reason for such system behavior is that you did not maintain a Tax Number Type that is valid for the 1099-MISC FormB in the master data of the supplier. There are only two Tax Number Types valid for this form: Employer Identification Number (EIN) and Social Security Number (SSN). If you did not maintain a Tax Number Type at all, or maintained a different one (e. g. State Sales and Use Tax Registration Number) the data won't be printed out in the RECIPIENT’S identification number field.
You should maintain a Tax Number Type like Employer Identification Number or Social Security Number in the master data of your suppliers, as follows:
- Go to Business Partner Data work center
- Go to Suppliers view
- Find the supplier and click Edit > Financial Data
- Move to Tax Data tab
- Under Tax Numbers section, enter Country US - United States and the respective Tax Number Type and Tax Number
- Click Save
As a result the Tax Number you just updated is reflected in the RECIPIENT’S identification number field of the 1099-MISC FormB form. The reflection is instantaneous, meaning you just need to close the form browser window and open it again (click Preview) to see the Tax Number.
