2109416 - You are Unable to Post Retroactive Capitalization for the Fixed Asset.

Symptom

While posting Manual Retroactive Capitalization, you get the following error message:

Initial capital. date must be in closed fiscal year; first opened year XXXX
Journal entries for journal entry voucher cannot be simulated

Reproducing the Issue

  • Go to Fixed Assets Work Center.
  • Go to Fixed Assets View.
  • Click on Fixed Assets Sub-View.
  • Select the Fixed Asset.
  • Click on Manual Posting and then on Retroactive Acquisition.
  • Define the Document Date and the Posting Date in the Current Year XXXX
  • Click on Simulate

Cause

Retroactive capitalization is the revaluation of a fixed asset for which the acquisition costs were set too low in the past. If the fiscal year in which these acquisition costs should have been capitalized is now closed, then you might post the Retroactive capitalization.

However in this case, the year XXXX is the current fiscal year and still open, hence the Retroactive capitalization posting is not allowed.  The Fixed Asset has not been capitalized yet and you are trying to post the first the acquisition on this asset in the current year. The current year XXXX is still open,so you can post the normal acquisition posting for this asset.

Retroactive capitalization should not be confused with subsequent acquisition costs in the current fiscal year. You can post subsequent acquisition costs to the fixed asset via a supplier invoice or by directly posting the acquisition costs.

Resolution

You need to select the Acquisition under the manual postings or you can use the Fixed Asset Procurement process to capitalize the Asset.

Kindly follow the below mentioned steps to post the Manual Acquisition.

  • Go to Fixed Assets Work Center.
  • Go to Fixed Assets View.
  • Click on Fixed Assets Sub-View.
  • Select the Fixed Asset.
  • Click on Manual Posting and then on Acquisition.
  • Define the Document Date and the Posting Date
  • Click on Post
