- How to manage Effective Dated Business Rules.
- We would like to configure a rule that propagates the Standard Working Hours of an employee, based on their Employment Type being equal to Full Time. This value is currently 35 hours per week. But in November, this value will change to 37.5 hours per week. Is it possible to use Effective Dating on Business Rules?

As of the b1408 release, it is now possible to use Effective Dating on Business Rules. This means you now have the ability to manage your rules based on Effective Dating, the same way you would manage Employee Central data, and Foundation/MDF Objects. The below scenario is just an example of how Effective Dated Business Rules can be useful (using the example question from above)
You can create your rule as normal, but notice the “Start Date” field now available on the Rule page.
When creating a new rule (and for rules that existed prior to the b1408 release), this value will always default to 01/01/1900, but this date can be changed to suite the scenario. We recommend using this date for all rules, as this will effectively apply this rule to all transactions used.
Then, as per the example scenario mentioned above, you can use the “Insert New Record” function to add a change to the rule that should become effective as of a specific date. In our example, as of the 1st November, the Standard Weekly Hours for all Full time employees will be 37.5 hours. So we Insert New Record, and set the Start Date to 1st November 2014, and we change the Standard Weekly Hours to be 37.5 and click Save.
You are then able to track the historic changes to the rules, and rules are able to be controlled by Effective Dating. This reduces the need for new rules to be created in the future, as the same rule can be updated by an Administrator at any point in time
