2089488 - How to Export & Import Report Definition (.sfr file) for Ad Hoc Report\Report Table

Symptom

You have created a Report Table\Ad Hoc report in your instance and would like to export the report definition so that you can import it to another instance.

For example, you have an Report Table\Ad Hoc report in your Test/Preview instance and would like to copy it to the Production instance.

Resolution

You can export or import an Ad Hoc Report\Report Table among instances via the Export Report Definitions functionality and also upload the report definition .sfr file.

Such functionality allows to save the report file in the sfr format which is an extension file specifically for Ad Hoc reports.

The file will include everything that is defined in the Ad Hoc report including BIRT templates & Datasets so you can simple export the report definition from one instance (Source) and import it into the other (Target).

You can export/import the Report Definition as follow

Report Center

  1. To export the report. Go to Report Center and select the desired report table from the list. In this example "Import Report 1"
  2. From the Action Menu select the Export option

  3. Save the Report Definition in a suitable location on your computer. the file will be saved with the .sfr format
  4. To import the report. Go to Report Center and click on the Import button then enter the desired report name, choose the .sfr file via the browse & select Import

  5. The message Import Report Passed should then appear

  6. You should now be able to use the report in the instance as desired.

Note: The report will work only if the fields are configured in the target instance the same way as the source instance.

Legacy Ad Hoc Reports

  1. From the Source Instance go to Ad Hoc Report Builder and select the desired report from the list. In this example Test x P
  2. Click on the report drop down and choose Export Report Definition

  3. Save the Report Definition in a suitable location on your computer

  4. From the Target Instance go to Ad Hoc Report Builder and click on Upload Report button
  5. Enter the desired report name, choose the file you just saved via the browse & select Upload

  6. The message Upload Successful should then appear
  7. You should now be able to use the report in the target instance as in the source one.
