You have executed the revenue recognition for the contract XYZ (XYZ represents the contract's ID) in a selected period. As a result, accrued amounts are posted as a lump sum, not per month.
Reproducing the Issue
- Go to the Cost and Revenue work center.
- Go to the Periodic Tasks view.
- Select the Revenue Recognition subview.
- Press on the Revenue Recognition Run ID.
- Navigate to Postings tab.
Result: An unexpected contract value got posted as a lump sum to the Accrued Revenues account.
With the accrual method 303 - Straight-line – Even Periods, the contract value is divided equally between all periods, e.g. from 01.01.XXXX to 31.12.XXXX (XXXX represents the calendar year). The posting of a lump sum indicates that the Revenue Recognition Run was not executed for each period during the contract's life time.
In order to accrue a contract's value evenly accross all accounting periods of the contract's life time the Revenue Recognition Run needs to be executed in each accounting period in chronological sequence. If any passed accounting period is being skipped the next periods run will accrue all outstanding values as a lump sum.
