1961505 - How to Block Only Partner Role of a Business Partner?

Symptom

You have a Business Partner which has the roles Account and Sales & Service Partner. You would like to continue with the Account role and block the Sales & Service Partner role.

When you try to block the Partner role, it blocks the Account role as well as the complete Business Partner role. Hence, you would like to know, if there is a way to block only the specific role.

Resolution

Currently it is not possible to block a particular role of a Business Partner which is a functional limitation. This will be considered as a future requirement in one of the upcoming releases.

In the meantime, the possible workaround is to create a Extension Field for maintain status only for Partners in Partners view of Account Management work center. For Example: You can create a Extension Field called Custom Status in the General tab of Partners and extend it to Partners view (Table view) and New Partners screen. Then maintain the status like Active, Blocked or Obsolete. Based on this status you can filter the Partners in partner view however the core status which is from the Business Partner will remain Active.

With this workaround, if you maintain custom status as Blocked for a particular partner then you avoid displaying it in the screen by using Advanced Search. The steps are as follows,

Step 1: (Creating an Extension Field in Edit Partner screen (General tab)

1. Go to Account Management work center.
2. Go to Partners view.
3. Edit any Partner and go to General tab.
4. Select Adapt and choose Enter Adaptation Mode.
5. Select Adapt again and choose Edit Screen.
6. Select Extension Fields.
7. Select a section (EX: Partner or Details).
8. Select Add button.
9. Select Field Type as List
10. In the Value field, input Active for the respective language for the code 101.
11. Select Add and input Blocked for the respective language for the code 102.
12. Enter the Field Label (EX: Custom Status)
13. Select Ok.
14. Check the Visible check box and save
15. Select Publish
16. Completely come out of the Adaptation Mode.

Step 2: (Extending the Extension Field to Advanced Search for filtering)

1. Go to Account Management work center.
2. Go to Partners view.
3. Select Advanced Search
4. Select Adapt and choose Enter Adaptation Mode.
5. Select Adapt again and choose Edit Screen.
6. Select Extension Fields.
7. Select the Title "Untitled Group" and check the "Visible" check box
8. Select the Title "Partners" and check the "Visible" check box and save
9. Select Publish
10. Completely come out of the Adaptation Mode.

Step 3: This step is optional. If you want this extension field in New partner screen.

1. Go to Account Management work center.
2. Go to Partners view.
3. Edit any Partner and go to General tab.
4. Select Adapt and choose Enter Adaptation Mode.
5. Select Adapt again and choose Edit Screen.
6. Select Extension Fields.
7. Select a Title (EX: Partner or Details) and check the "Visible" check box and save
8. Select Publish
9. Completely come out of the Adaptation Mode.

Now, if you are blocking a partner then you can update the status in the above created field and you can filter it accordingly in the Overview screen.
