Symptom

When a report is opened from a folder with read-only access, saved to a full access folder, and is then modified in the Crystal Reports Designer, the report cannot be saved unless the report is closed and reopened before modifications are made.

Environment

SAP Crystal Reports 2011 Support Pack 02

Reproducing the Issue

1. Create a folder on your PC with the following security: Please put the folder under "C:\Program Files" to reproduce this bug

a. Administrators

i. Full Control

b. Creator Owner

i. Special Permissions  (usually contains full control)

c. System

i.Full Control


d. Users (<your pc>\Users)


i. Read & Execute
ii. List Folder Contents
iii. Read


2. Copy a report into the folder created in step #1.


3. Launch Crystal Reports Designer using "Run As". To perform the "Run
As" function, hold down the shift key, single click on Crystal Reports
Designer, and click the right mouse button.


4. A pop-up menu "Run As" will appear allowing you to logon as another
user.

a. Select "The following user:" radio button and logon with another
user on your domain that does not have Administrator rights to your pc
(i.e. is only a User of your pc).

5. Once Crystal Reports Designer launches open the report in the folder
created in step #1.


6. A Message should pop up stating:
"This report could not be opened for writing. Any changes must be
saved to a new file."
-After opening the report from the folder where the user has restricted rights the above message is observed, then
if save the report to another folder where the user has full rights, and then make a change to the report,
and then save it again, the error message appears as- "This report could not be opened for writing. Any
changes must be saved to a new file."

Cause

This issue has been identified as a bug and raised under Problem Report ID: ADAPT01369824.

Resolution

This issue has been addressed in SAP Crystal Reports 2011 Feature Pack 3.
