1862357 - Unexpected Exchange Rate Difference Causing Wrong VAT Value When Posting Customer Invoice

Symptom

You post a customer invoice with foreign currency. On the journal entry, there is posting to Exchange Difference account that is unexpected, because the Invoice Date is the Posting Date, and there is no change of exchange rate on this date.

Environment

SAP Business ByDesign

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to the General Ledger work center.
  2. Choose the Journal Entries view.
  3. Select the Journal Entries subview.
  4. Search for the journal entry in question.
  5. Open this journal entry.
  6. Check the Line Items, and you can see, there is one line with posting to Exchange Difference account.
  7. However, the Source Document Date and the Posting Date are on the same day.

Cause

The system works as designed.

  • When you create the customer invoice, the system calculates the tax information immediately at the Tax Date. When the invoice is posted, the system calculates it again.
  • Since the Tax Date on the source document is not the Posting Date, and the Exchange Rate on the Tax Date is different from that on the Posting Date, so there is tax difference caused by different exchange rate, and the difference is posted to Exchange Difference account.

Resolution

If you want the new exchange rate to be used for tax calculation, you need to cancel this invoice and create a new one:

  1. Go to the Customer Invoicing work center.
  2. Select the Invoice Documents view.
  3. Show All Invoice Documents and search for the Customer Invoice in question.
  4. Choose the Customer Invoice, and Cancel it.
  5. After that, create a new customer invoice with the right Tax Date and post it.
