1715902 - Error: “Unknown database connector error” while creating Crystal Report using a Universe in Crystal Reports 2008

Symptom

  • Error: "Unknown Database Connector Error. Details: All the servers with CMS <CMS name>/cluster @<CMS name> and kind web server are down or disabled" while creating Crystal Report using a universe in Crystal Reports 2008
  • When creating a new Crystal Report selecting 'Universe' as Data Source, the list of Universes appear, but as soon as you select the Universe you receive the error message
  • In Universe Designer, if we test the connection the connection is working properly
  • Crystal Report can be created directly on the reporting database on which Universe is created

Environment

  • Crystal Report 2008 Sp3
  • Oracle 11g

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Open Crystal Reports 2008
  2. Create a new report based on Universe connection
  3. List of Universes will appear
  4. Choose the respective Universe on which you want to create your Crystal Report
  5. You will get the error message as shown in the screenshot

Cause

 When creating new Crystal Reports against a universe, the Web Intelligence Processing Server is either in the Stop state or not present in the CCM (Central Configuration Manager)

Resolution

  1. If not present, create a new WebIntelligence Processing Server from the Central Configuration Manager, then start it
  2. Login in the Central Management Console with 'administrator' account and enable the new WebIntelligence Processing Server  
  3. Now you can successfully create a Crystal Report against an Universe and you'll be able to retrieve its objects
