Where is Crystal Reports Design and Crystal Reports SDK help file for Visual Studio 2010?
Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010
Reproducing the Issue
Pressing the F1 key brings up a Page with a link to Crystal Reports 10.x included with Visual Studio 2005 or 2008.
This is not the correct version.
Visual Studio 2010 now has a Help File Manager. By default help is not installed for either products.
Also noted in the Release notes:
To start the VS 2010 help manager click on the Help menu and then select Manage Help Settings. This bring up an option dialog box.
Select the first option, Choose online or local help and set it to local which is the default if it's not.
There are two help file/options to install.
To install Crystal Reports Designer help file click on the "Install Content from disk" and then browse to:
- C:\Program Files\SAP BusinessObjects\Crystal Reports for .NET Framework 4.0\Common\Crystal Reports 2011\HelpFiles ( 32 bit OS )
- C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\Crystal Reports for .NET Framework 4.0\Common\Crystal Reports 2011\HelpFiles ( 64 bit OS )
- Select the Manifest file "helpcontentsetup.msha" then click the Add highlighted in blue and then the Update button and then click the Yes button on the Certificate page.
- For other language support drill down into the lower levels located in C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\Crystal Reports for .NET Framework 4.0\Common\Crystal Reports 2011\HelpFiles\ and you will see a Manafest file located in each subfolder.
Now when you are designing a report in the IDE by adding a new Crystal Report or opening and existing one, when you highlight any of the report objects and press F1 key a help file will open up for report designer and that object. Note you will see some basic SDK help in the Report Designer help but it is not the same as the main SDK help file.
To get the main Crystal Reports SDK help you need to add and select at least one of the Microsoft Visual Studio help files by selecting:
"Install content from on line".
You may want more than one but you need at least one for CR SDK help to become available.
When the help file(s) have downloaded and installed you can close the Help Manager.
From any form within the VS IDE you can now highlight the CR API name and then press the F1 key. The help file will open up on the API selected.
The complete CR SDK help file links will now become available from the "Library Home" link and then "SAP Crystal Reports .NET API Guide"
