1505620 - How to create a 32 bit ODBC data source on a 64 bit Operating System

Symptom

  • Connecting 32 bit version of Crystal Reports to an ODBC data source
  • The report is not able to see the ODBC data source

Environment

  • SAP Crystal Reports 2016

Reproducing the Issue

  • On a 64 bit Operating System, create and ODBC data source using the Administrative Tools in the Control Panel
  • Open a 32 bit Crystal Report and try to connect it to the above data source

Cause

  • 32 bit Crystal Reports needs a 32 bit ODBC data source
  • On a 64 bit Operating System it is possible to create both a 32 bit and a 64 bit data source
  • ODBC administrator exe name is the same for both 32 and 64 bit (ODBCAD32.exe)

Resolution

  • To create 32 bit ODBC data sources, use the ODBCAD32.exe in C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe 
  • To create 64 bit ODBC data sources, use the ODBCAD32.exe in C:\Windows\System32\odbcad32.exe
