1466567 - How to Define Employee ID Using Alphanumeric Characters

Symptom

You, as a personnel administrator, may have a requirement to define the Employee ID by using alphanumeric characters. Then it is needed to configure Number range for Employees and Service Agents fine tuning activity.

Cause

If the setting for alphanumeric number ranges is not maintained in the fine-tuning activity Number range for Employees and Service agents, it is not possible to use alphanumeric characters in Employee ID.

Resolution

  1. Go to the Business Configuration work center.
  2. Select the Activity list view.
  3. Select Fine Tune chevron at the top.
  4. Select fine tuning activity Number range for Employees and Service Agents.
  5. A new screen opens, select Number range for employees under section Available Number Ranges.
  6. Enter the length of the employee ID in the field Total Length (including prefix).
  7. Fill the fields Start Number and End Number according to your requirements and make sure to set Interval Type as Manual (refer to section See Also for details).

Now you are able to define the employee ID using alphanumeric characters.

Total Length (including prefix): 5

Start Number: 0

End Number: 9999Z

Interval Type: Manual

Then you can define employee ID like: 12Z-5, 5-01A, 1-99Z.

Example 2:

Total Length (including prefix): 9

Start Number: 0

End Number: 99999999Z

Interval Type: Manual

Then you can define employee ID like: 00001A-1A, 1256-01AA, 10001-99Z.

Note: If the 'Total Length (including prefix)' is 'n', then the 'Start Number' should be '0' and the 'End Number' will be in the format '(n-1) 9s' and ends with letter 'Z'.
