1272676 - Not all the standard HTML tags are interpreted in Crystal Reports when using HTML Text Interpretation

Symptom

  • HTML tags not working in Crystal Reports.
  • Not all HTML tags works when formatting an object using the HTML Text Interpretation in Crystal Reports.
  • HTML tags like: <table>, <a>,... are not interpreted when formatting an object to use HTML Text Interpretation.

Reproducing the Issue

  1. In Crystal Reports, create a report off any data source.
       
  2. Insert a formula or database fields that contains HTML on a report that contains tags like: <table>,<a>,...
       
  3. Format the object to use: HTML Text Interpretation
    1. Right click on the object and select Format Field
    2. In the Format Editor window, under the tab Paragraph, set the Text Interpretation option to: HTML Text
    3. Click OK
          
  4. When previewing the report noticed the information displayed is not in the expected format.

Cause

  • Crystal Reports HTML Text Interpretation formatting option does not support all standard HTML tags.
       
  • The HTML Text Interpretation option is designed to support HTML tags to format text only.
  • In more details: The reason it is not formatted according the HTML tags, it's because the HTML Text Interpretation functionality in Crystal Reports is designed to be in line with the text formatting functionalities available in Crystal Reports, therefore the HTML tags that can be used are limited to: fonts, fonts size, colors, text alignment, etc... and does not support any other HTML tags.
