1203908 - Crystal report using an Oracle database does not show list of values in prompts

Symptom

In Crystal Reports XI, when attempting to access the list of values (LOV) from a report based on a universe using an Oracle database as the data provider, the LOVs are not listed in the prompts. The LOVs are blank.

The following workflow is used:

  1. Open Crystal Report Designer.
  2. Select a universe using an Oracle database as the data source.
  3. Create a report.
  4. Click several objects in the query panel.
  5. Drag a field to the condition pane to apply a prompt.
  6. Click the LOVs for the objects.

When the LOV tab is clicked, no LOVs are listed.

Cause

This behavior occurs because Oracle provides strong security when users try to access data. Oracle authenticates users before accessing the data.

Resolution

To resolve the behavior

  1. Open sqlnet.ora in a text editor such as Notepad.
    The file is located at <installation directory>:\Oracle\ora92\network\admin\.
  2. Locate the following parameter:

    SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES=(NTS)

  3. Change this to the following:

    SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NULL)

  4. Save and close the file.

The LOVs are now visible in the report.
