1182991 - Error: "Failed to open the connection..." on Crystal Reports Server when viewing Auditor reports

Symptom

You've added an auditing license to Crystal Reports Server XI Release 2 or 2008V0, but when viewing the Auditor reports, the following error message appears:

"Failed to open the connection, <report name>
Unable to retreive Object.
Failed to open the connection. <report name>"

Cause

Crystal Reports Server does not support reporting from universes. A Web Intelligence Report Server is needed to process reports based on universes.  The bundled Auditor reports are provided in Crystal Reports format and Web Intelligence format. Both of these reports are based on the Activity universe.

Resolution

If an aditional Auditing license has been added to the Crystal Reports Server, you can enable auditing. However, you must create custom reports directly from the Audit database and not the Activity universe.
