When you add an Item with type NORM - Product - delivery-based in a Service Order and you receive the error message: Item XX: Products w/ item group Product - delivery-based not supported for location of srv provision On-Site

SAP Business ByDesign

1. Go to the Service Orders work center.
2. Select the Service Order Processing view
3. Press the New button and select the Service Order option.
4. Enter all respective data.
5. Press the View All button.
6. Go to Service and Spare Parts tab and enter product ABC (ABC represents the number of the product with item type NORM).
7. Following error message occurs:

Item XX: Products w/ item group Product - delivery-based not supported for location of srv provision On-Site (XX represents the line item number of the product)

The Item Type NORM is not supported in Service documents such as Service Orders but only in Sales documents such as Sales Orders.

In Service Documents the Item Type SHIP is used for products with advanced shipments.

The item group SHIP represents a spare part that is sold in an Order-to-Cash (Products) scenario or used within the Field Service and Repair scenario. If used within Field Service and Repair in service orders, the spare part is normally shipped to the customer before the service is carried out on-site.

If you would like to use Material ABC in a Service Order you need to ensure that the Item Group maintained in the Product Master Data of the Material is maintained as SHIP - Spare part (advanced ship/sales) for the Sales Organization and Distribution Chain maintained in the Service Order.
