This article describes the steps on how to address the error ‘jobApplicationQuestionResponse required, for templateId XXX, with the index 0’ when performing JobRequisition or JobApplication upsert / import. This applies to any kind of integration, i.e., via Integration Center, via postman, via any third-party application / middleware.

One or more pre-screening questions is required in the requisition and the applicant has not answered it yet.

The questionResponse pertains to the candidates' answers to pre-screening questions.

You have multiple ways to address the error:

a. You can populate the answers for those questions in the UI (if you have write permissions to the fields) or ask your candidates to fill them out.
b. You can populate the answers for those questions in the API payload, together with the other fields you want to upsert/import.
c. Enable the permission "OData API Application Create and Update Validation Bypass for Required Fields" for the API user to skip pre-screening questions.

Note: This permission allows users to bypass the validation for pre-screening questions in Multi Stage Application environment. In Single Stage Application environment, mandatory pre-screening questions will still be validated on create / upsert.
