2845270 - Leads can be saved despite error messages

Symptom

You are entering an invalid value (for example a post code that is too short) in a Lead and the system gives the error: "Postal code has to be 5 digits"; however, the Lead can still be saved with the invalid value. You have maintained Address Checks and Postcode settings but the address can still be saved.

The same can be observed in Opportunities.

Environment

SAP Sales Cloud

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to the Sales workcenter.
  2. Go to the Leads view.
  3. Click New to create a Lead.
  4. Don't use an existing Account and enter a wrong postal code (eg 4 digits instead of 5).
  5. Click Save.

Result: an error message is shown that the postcode is too short but the Lead is saved nevertheless.

The same behaviour can be observed in Opportunities.

Cause

Leads (and opportunities) are very lenient and allow inconsistencies to a certain level. This is, so that during your lead and opportunity creation you have some more flexibility that can be evened out towards the more serious business steps.

Resolution

This is the designed system behaviour.
