2802295 - System allows copy position with inactive object values - Employee Central

Symptom

  • After the inactivation of a Department (for example) that is being used on a Position, the Position object record does not remove the inactive Department. Now when this position is copied the same invalid/inactive department value is on the copied position.
  • When copying position (adding peer or lower level), if the original position contains inactive values of foundation data such as Division, Department etc., these inactive values are also copied. However, when you Insert New Record on position with an effective date that is on or after the date on which the Division has been made inactive, the Division value appears blank in the Insert New Record UI. The expectation is that even while adding a lower-level or peer position, the inactive Division should appear blank as it does during Insert New Record action.

Environment

  • SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central - Position Management

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to Manage Data
  2. Inactivate a Department (for example):
    InactiveDept.png
  3. Look at the Position using this Department:
    Position1.png
  4. Go to Position Org Chart and copy this position. The copied Position results:
    CopiedPosition1.png

Cause

  • For adding a peer/lower-level position: The system checks the rule "Rule for Defining Copy-Relevant Position Fields" in position management settings. All fields are copied from source position to the new position according to rule configurations.
  • For copy Position: there is no rule, but all fields are copied from source position without any validations.
  • For option to make a copy from position in Manage data, under 'Take Action' by selecting any position/object, also all fields are copied from source position without any validations.

Resolution

This is expected behavior, because you are copying an existing record which contains the Inactive Department and current system will not perform any validations during the copy action.
