2797200 - How does the Mentoring Auto-Matching Algorithm work?

Symptom

  • How does the Mentoring Auto-Matching algorithm work?
  • What is the Mentoring Matching Criteria?
  • Does the Mentoring Auto-Matching criteria considers Employee Profile fields?
  • Why does the Mentoring Auto-Matching algorithm only considers the Location and Competencies in the Employee Profile round of matching?

Environment

SAP SuccessFactors Career Development Planning - Mentoring

Resolution

The Mentoring Auto-Matching algorithm performs matching in 4 rounds, initially considering the Mentoring Profile and then the Employee Profile if no matches in the Mentoring Profile are found. In the first three rounds, it considers the matching criteria defined for the program. In the fourth round, it considers the "Location" fields and Competencies from the Employee Profile.

For the complete description on the auto-matching algorithm, please refer to the Mentoring Administration Guide - Mentoring Auto-Matching Algorithm.

Note on the Matching Level:

If a participant is removed from a program after the automatic matching has been done (via the trashcan):

Delete mentee from Mentoring.jpg

And then manually reassigned:

Reassign Mentoring participant.jpg

The algorithm is no longer utilized and the participant's Matching Level will always show as Average (single star):
