2696325 - Error Message: No Functional Area could Be Assigned During Unposted Warehouse Confirmation

You have noticed an unposted source document with an error message which prevents the document from being posted. The error message is:

No functional are could be assigned

SAP Business ByDesign

1. Go to General Ledger work center.
2. Go to the Closing Cockpit view.
3. Go to the Source Documents subview.
4. Search for your Source Document ID, in this case the Source Document is a Warehouse Confirmation.
5. Select the ID and under the Details section you can see this error:
   No functional are could be assigned
   Derivation for accounting principle 123, chart of accounts PQR, G/L account 456, Nonsales Object

Since you have scoped to report Income Statement by Function of Expense and maintained the reporting principle as Funct of exp, the system tries and assign a functional area when it is hitting the gl-account 456 which is another operational expenses.

However, system is failing to assign since, it could not find a default functional area for nonsales object or a functional area assigned to this GL account in particular in the activity Settings for Income Statements by Function of Expense and Earned Profit Analysis.

You need to follow the steps below to set the configuration and post the documents.

1. Go to the Business Configuration work center and Implementation Projects view.
2. Select the project and select Open Activity List.
3. Go to the tab Fine-Tuning Activities.
4. Select activity: Settings for Income Statements by Function of Expense and Earned Profit Analysis.
5. Select Functional Area Determination.
6. Select Add Row in tab Determination Using G/L Accounts.
7. Input the G/L account 456, Restrict to: 2 - Nonsales Object and select Functional Area.
8. Select Save.

Now you will be able to post the Unposted Source Document.
