2677528 - Type-Ahead Suggestion For Dropdown Lists

Symptom

You notice that the system suggests values for some fields only when you type the value description exactly as it starts.

Environment

SAP Cloud for Customer

Reproducing the Issue

Below are example fields which you can find in the Account Quick Create screen, depending on your system setup. The behaviour is the same for these field types throughout the system.

Prerequisite: You have maintained a Sales Org with the description Sales Region Example and the value Cost and Freight is available for the field Incoterms. Both fields have been made visible in your Account Quick Create view.

For Identifiers, you can enter any part of the description and receive a hit:

  1. Example field: Sales Organization.
  2. In the field you type: Region.
  3. The system gives you a suggestion from your maintained Sales Organization value descriptions, for example: Sales Region Example.

For codes, you only receive a hit if you enter the start of the code description:

  1. Example field: Incoterms.
  2. In the field you type: freight.
  3. No suggestions are returned.
  4. Then you type: Cost.

The system finds a hit and auto suggests: Cost and freight.

Cause

The type-ahead for code values works differently than for identifiers. For dropdown lists, the system shows suggestions of items which start with the typed characters.
The suggestion for dropdown fields works by checking for values that start with what is being typed.

Resolution

This is how the system frame work was built and expected system behaviour.
