2587216 - Filter for Basic Search in Resource Management Does Not Work As Expected

Symptom

You are attempting to locate a specific resource in the Resource Search view of the Resource Management work center using the Basic search option, but multiple resources not directly related to the search term still show up in the result.

Environment

SAP Business ByDesign 1711 and higher.

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to the Resource Management.
  2. Access the Resource Search view.
  3. In the Basic search field, input a search term (e.g. the first name of an employee).
  4. Click Go or press Enter.
  5. Multiple results will be displayed, some apparently not related to the search term.

Cause

This is the standard system behavior. The Basic search in the Resource Search works on approximate string matching — also known as fuzzy string searching — which is a technique that matches a pattern approximately rather than exactly. Therefore, the search will pull up all resources that have any mention to the search term within their records.

Resolution

To execute a more exact query in the Resource Search view of the Resource Management work center, you can use the Advanced search option.
