2565738 - How To Solve the Fixed Asset Migration Error: Posting leads to different acquisition cost amount

Symptom

You are using the Fixed Assets (extended) migration template to migrate fixed assets data, since you have multiple set of books, valuation views or fixed asset retirements in your legacy system.

While simulating the migration you come across the following error message(s):

Asset XXX val.view YYY: Posting leads to different acquisition cost amount

XXX = Asset ID

YYY = Valuation View ID

Environment

SAP Business ByDesign

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to the Business Configuration work center.
  2. Go to the Overview view.
  3. Search and open the activity Migration of Accounting Transaction Data.
  4. Click Migrate accounting transaction data using the migration tool.
  5. Select the respective migration unit and click Execute Migration.
  6. Select the Fixed Assets (extended) migration object and click Process File.

You'll see the error message(s) on the Log section:

Asset XXX val.view YYY: Posting leads to different acquisition cost amount

Cause

The reason for the error message(s) is that not all the combination of set of books and valuation views are maintained in the xml file for migration.

A typical case: for example, there are 5 valuation views tied to the set of books you are migrating fixed assets, but in the Fixed Assets (extended) template > Asset Posting Lines worksheet there are some lines with data for only 2 valuation views.

Resolution

You could verify whether all the valuation view data is maintained or not by adding an extra worksheet to the excel downloaded from the migration tool and, in the new worksheet, adding 2 new columns for verifications, for example "Key" and "Count" (header row).

Steps on Microsoft Excel:

  1. In the new worksheet, copy the following relevant columns (without the header) from Asset Posting Lines worksheet:
  2. Inventory ID (A)
    Set of Books ID (B)
    Valuation View (C)
    Movement Category (D)
    Line Item Type (E)
    Valuation Date (F)
    Posting Date (G)
    Currency (I)
    Debit or Credit Amount (J)
  3. In the next column (K) use the CONCATENATE function to concatenate columns A, B, D, E and F.
  4. In the next column (L) copy and paste the data obtained with the function on column K (use paste option Values(V)).
  5. In the next column (M) use the COUNTIF function giving K as range and L as criteria. The COUNTIF function counts the number of cells within a range that meet a single criterion that you specify.
  6. Apply the COUNTIF function to all rows of column M.
  7. In the row #1 of this worksheet you can add a Filter (Data section > Filter icon).

Finally, on column M you have the result of how many valuation view lines are maintained for each Inventory ID in Asset Posting Lines worksheet. You can use the downward arrow from the filter to check in details.

Please check the Attachments section for an example where you are migrating thousands of fixed assets (9137 entries in Asset Posting Lines), there are 5 valuation views tied to the set of books, but for 2 fixed assets you entered lines for only 2 valuation views (3 missing for each one).
